Gabe Newell said that these games will not be some “mini” VR demos or smaller experimental games, but “real and complete serious” games. Even though he did not revealed what kind of games they will be, he did however pointed out that they are developed by Source 2 and Unity Engine.
Few years ago, this company adjusted the Half Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 for Oculus Rift, but Newell says that those games werent quite fun for playing. Due to the fact that the VR technology is advancing, Newell believes that within the next two years we could expect a huge leap in the VR hardware quality.
According to him, people are “stuck” with mouses and keyboards for too long, and the time has come to take advantage of the opportunities for a new and interesting gaming experience. Now, in order to set the market in motion, it requires ‘something’ that will get millions excited and will change their perception about virtual reality.
The progress that can make people buy more VR devices is the hardware that the first man of Valve is talking about. Al though, the analysts are sceptical about the VR and gaming overall and remind us about what happened with the revolution when the movie Avatar was screened in 3D, and right after that 3D TV sets started selling – the conclusion is that people rarely buy that kind of television sets because the experience is not even close as the one that you can get at the movie theaters.
